Jomise K7 Dash Cam Review

A dash cam is a must-have if you ever have an accident. But choosing the right one isn’t always easy with so many options available. I recently had the pleasure of testing out the Jomise K7 Dash Cam. To my surprise, it wasn’t just your standard dash cam. In fact, it offered a few features I’d never seen before that are useful for more than just proof after an accident.

Overview of Features

The Jomise K7 Dash Cam isn’t your typical flat rectangle, which makes it stand out from the start. This camera is designed to provide you with high-quality video footage along with ensuring you never get caught not paying attention when a red light turns green.

If you’ve ever had a driver behind you honk their horn because your mind drifted while waiting, you’ll love this feature. The camera literally tells you to go when the light turns green. Or, if there’s a car in front of you at a stop sign or traffic light, you’ll hear a prompt to go as well. Honestly, as impressed as I was by all the other features, these alerts to go really helped set this dash cam apart from the competition for me.

Installation and Setup

The only difficult part of installing the Jomise K7 Dash Cam is simply running the cable around the windshield. Otherwise, it’s ready to use within five minutes.

To avoid those frustrating suction cup marks on your windshield, Jomise provides an electrostatic sticker to mount the dash cam. Plus, if you ever need to remove the camera, it’s quick and easy. The sticker holds tight to the windshield and the camera doesn’t move at all, even when hitting potholes.

The dash cam provides a setting on the camera itself and within the app to help you align it, though once you see the video on the screen, it’s pretty self-explanatory. At first, adjusting the camera is a little difficult because it’s stiff. But that’s also a good thing, as you don’t want the camera moving around on its own.

You’re immediately prompted to download the HiDashCam app (Android / iOS). Simply scan the QR code to download the app for your device. You have to connect to the app in order to set up the camera. This automatically adds the date and time.

Once downloaded, you’ll connect to the camera’s Wi-Fi network. This lets you view the camera live, check footage stored on the microSD card (not included with the camera), save videos and screenshots to your phone, and connect your location (using GPS from your phone) to the camera. Overall, it’s an incredibly useful app. Plus, most of the settings on the device itself are available within the app, too.

One thing I really liked was that you can scroll through your video history using a timeline. This makes it even easier to find important moments – or just find a moment that you’d like to take a screenshot of, like a beautiful sunset.

After the initial setup, you don’t have to keep your phone connected. However, you can connect in seconds to view footage on your phone or remove the microSD card to view footage on a computer.

Exploring the Camera

The Jomise K7 Dash Cam has a touchscreen and works smoothly. Simply swipe up or down to access one of two menus. The first set of menus (swipe side to side to access the full menu) allows you to change your resolution and volume, format your SD card, and more.

The second menu is colorful and only has four simple options: location, Wi-Fi, sound, and microphone. These only turn those particular features on or off. It’s a nice shortcut menu to quickly adjust a few settings.

When installed, the microSD slot is on the top side of the camera. You may have to adjust the camera angle down to install the card more easily.

The power port is on the front, making it easy to disconnect at any time. While there’s a similar port on the side, the instruction manual states that the port has no purpose. I’m assuming it may be to connect a rear camera in the future, but I’m honestly not sure.

The small, compact size makes it easy to place almost anywhere on your windshield. You can even tuck it behind your rearview mirror. This helps keep it out of your field of vision, but you’ll still record everything you need.

Outside of the traffic light and stop sign (only if a car is in front of you) alerts, my other favorite feature is the screensaver. I know it sounds simple, but I find the video recording so distracting while I’m driving. You can use a blank screen, two different time screens, or any image you want. I added some snowflakes since it’s coming up on winter where I’m located.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the Jomise K7 Dash Cam is an impressive dash cam that’s incredibly easy to use. You’re able to start recording in minutes. Plus, the video quality looks crystal clear, both day and night. The traffic light alert works well, prompting you to go within just a few seconds. The cars behind me didn’t even realize I was testing a camera – that’s how quickly I was prompted.

Thanks to the screensaver feature, it’s less distracting than many other dash cams. Plus, I noticed it didn’t get quite as hot as others I’ve tried. The only major con in my opinion is the camera doesn’t have a quick release button. I’ve seen this feature on a few dash cams and it’s nice if you want to remove the camera without disconnecting the base from your windshield.
