Acquired by Apple in 2018, Shazam is one of the world’s most famous audio recognition services. You can use Shazam to identify music, movies, adverts, and TV shows, based on a short snippet of audio. If you’re an iPhone user, you can now add a Shazam button to your device’s Control Center and quickly identify songs with a single click.

Access your iPhone’s Control Center
iPhone’s Control Center is designed to provide easy access to your most frequently-used apps and services. This typically includes toggling your Wi-Fi, mobile data, and Bluetooth, adjusting your device’s volume, taking a picture, and using your device as a flashlight.
The way you access the Control Center will vary, depending on your device:
- iPhone X or later: swipe down from the top-right corner of your screen.
- iPhone SE (2nd generation), iPhone 8 or earlier, or iPod Touch: swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen.
Although it’s built into recent releases of iOS, Shazam isn’t included in the Control Center by default, which means we need to add it!
Adding a Shazam button to the Control Center
In iOS 11 and later, you can customize the Control Center. In this tutorial, we are focusing on adding a Shazam shortcut, but there are many other ways you can customize the Control Center.
To add Shazam to your Control Center:
1. Launch your device’s “Settings” application.
2. Select “Control Center” (Control Centre).
3. Find the “Music Recognition” service. Tap the “+” icon next to it.
4. Shazam is now active! If you scroll to the top of this screen, you’ll see that “Music Recognition” now appears in the “Included Controls” section.
5. By default, Shazam will be added to the bottom of your “Included Controls” list. This means Shazam will appear at the very bottom of your Control Panel.
You can change Shazam’s position in your Control Panel. In the “Included Controls” section, each item has an accompanying lined icon. Press and hold Shazam’s lined icon and drag it to a new position in the list. This will change where Shazam appears in your Control Panel.
Using your new music recognition button
To use your new music recognition button, open your Control Panel by dragging onscreen and then tapping the Shazam icon.
Shazam will now “listen” and display your results as a pop-up.
You can often learn more about the identified audio by tapping the pop-up. Where available, you can also listen to an identified song on Apple Music or get suggestions for similar tracks.
If you missed the pop-up notification, Shazam’s results will also appear on your lockscreen and in the Notification Centre.
Remove the Shazam music recognition service
If there’s a shortcut you rarely use, you may want to remove it from your Control Center. This can make room for additional shortcuts or simplify your Control Center so that it’s easier to find the shortcuts you do want. To remove Shazam (or any other shortcut) from the Control Center:
1. Launch your device’s “Settings” application.
2. Select “Control Center” (Control Centre).
3. In the “Included Controls” section, find the shortcut in question. In this instance, that’s “Music Recognition.”
4. Tap this shortcut’s accompanying “-” icon.
5. When prompted, tap “Remove.”
This item will now vanish from the Control Center.
Wrapping Up
As you can see, it is easy to add the Shazam button to the Control Center. You can also learn how to Shazam a song with earphones on or how to use sound recognition alerts on your iPhone.
