How to Adjust the Home Button Click Speed on iOS Devices

On iOS devices you can easily adjust the speed needed to press the home button in order for the device to respond. Generally you will have to double-press the home button for app-switching and triple-press it for accessibility shortcuts.

Slowing the speed required to perform these actions can be done for accessibility reasons, such as if someone were not able to double-press the button fast enough to access the app switcher. While you can adjust the speed lower, surprisingly you cannot speed it up, so power users are out of luck for the time being.

Furthermore, on iPhone 7, since the device has a capacitive home button and not a physical one, you can change the level of haptic feedback that the device provides to simulate a physical button press. Since this goes hand in hand with the previous idea, that will be covered in this article as well.

Follow along to make these adjustments.

Adjusting Click Speed

1. Launch Settings from the home screen of your iOS device.

2. Tap “General” from within settings.

4. Tap “Home Button.”

5. Finally, adjust the click speed by tapping the speed you would prefer. “Default,” “Slow,” and “Slowest” being the options. Also, if you are using a device with Touch ID and would prefer to avoid pressing the home button altogether when unlocking the device, turn on the “Rest Finger to Open” option.

Adjusting Haptic Feedback on iPhone 7 and 7 Plus

When setting up your iPhone 7 or 7 Plus, you will be prompted to set up a haptic feedback level. If you decide any time after the setup process to make an adjustment, it can be done in iOS settings as follows.

1. Follow the instructions for how to adjust the home button click speed up to step 2 to reach “General.”

2. Now, tap the “Home Button” option above the “Accessibility” option.

3. Tap either the first, second, or third preset, and then press the home button to try out the feedback level. I personally keep mine on the third level, as it is most prominent. When you are done and have a selection that you like, tap “Done.”
