And you say YES !!!! really! Try opening a password protected Word file on a Chromebook. The online Office and Google Docs won’t do it. You have to use one of the clunky other office apps like WPS Office. And then It struggles to save it back to Onedrive. I had the android app version of Word working fine on my Chromebook, but Miscrosoft have disabled it and it comes up with a message saying use the online version. Thanks Microsoft.

Google “Docs” can open, modify and save Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Powerpoint files. The Docs apps are very similar to Office programs of earlier versions. The mist common editing shortcuts are identical. Their main limitations are the lack of dynamic content linking between documents and imprecise translation of some formatting details.

Libre Office and OpenOffice are very similar to Microsoft Office, file compatible and can be made to look and feel very much like them as well.
