Dabbsson DBS2300 Portable Power Station Review

Whether you love camping or just like to always be prepared, a portable power station can come in handy. These devices are made to power all of your major appliances during a power outage or run your campsite for the weekend, but some can cost upwards of $2,000. The Dabbsson DBS2300 Portable Power Station offers everything that most of the premier battery backups offer, but for hundreds of dollars less. I put the device to the test in this review to learn whether it provides what you need.

Power Virtually Anything

The Dabbsson DBS2300 Portable Power Station is a multipurpose portable power station. Fitted with a variety of output options, the device is designed to “power anything anywhere,” both inside your home and outdoors.

In total, the battery backup includes 15 outputs:

• 3 USB-A ports (1 fast charge)
• 3 USB-C ports
• 5 AC outputs
• 1 Car Power Output (12.6V)
• 2 DC outputs
• 1 Anderson output

In addition to these traditional ports, the Dabbsson DBS2300 also has ports for you to connect up to 3 units together for a total battery size of 8330Wh.

The more items you plug into the battery, the faster it will drain. Luckily, the front display shows exactly how much power (in watts) is used. Also, the system will not provide power to any devices that are plugged in but do not require energy (e.g., a lamp that is turned off). This helps the device conserve energy and allocate it to items that need it, which is critical during power outages.

According to the manufacturer, the 2330Wh battery can power 90% of your home for two days. It can put out 2200W of power at a time, which is typically more than enough for most essential household items. The DBS2300 also includes a unique feature called P-Boost, which supports a 3000W max output for a single high-powered device, like a power tool.

Although many people use portable power stations outdoors, Dabbsson strongly promotes itself as a great battery backup for the inside, thanks to its crucial safety features. The battery complies with EMC Class B standards, meaning it emits low enough radiation levels for you to sleep next to it without worry. Also, the UL94 V0 enclosure provides the highest possible fire rating for a portable power station.

During my testing, I opted to use the power station in my home office. For three days, I ran a 27-inch monitor, two lamps, a laptop, a phone charger, and a webcam without draining the entire battery. I was also able to move it to my living room and operate my television for an entire day without worrying about it running out.

Finally, the Dabbsson DBS2300 outshines its competitors with a built-in LED light with multiple brightness options and a strobe that could be used in emergency situations.

Replenish the Battery in Multiple Ways

One thing that makes the Dabbsson DBS2300 Portable Power Station stand out from other battery backups is its semi-solid state lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery. It’s the same technology used in electric vehicles, meaning it’s made to last longer than the lithium-ion batteries used in some other systems.

According to Dabbsson, the batteries are made to withstand 4500 charges and last 15 years. Although it’s impossible to test this for a review, I did take the time to explore the charging capabilities of this impressive battery.

The DBS2300 can recharge in four different ways:

• AC charging
• Solar charging
• Generator charging
• Car charging

AC charging is by far the fastest and most preferred method. The device supports fast charging, along with power range controls. These controls allow you to select anywhere from 20-1800W input through the smartphone app (read more in the next section), with the default setting being 600W.

The manufacturer claims the battery can completely recharge in just two hours. However, this can only occur when you enable fast charging and set the charging power range to 1800W. That being said, the battery still charges quickly, especially considering its capacity.

During my testing, I first drained the battery completely. Then, I used the included AC cord to charge it in my office. With the default settings, it took approximately four hours to charge. The display shows you how much the battery is charged and provides an estimate of when it will be fully charged.

When it comes to solar charging, the Dabbsson DBS2300 supports up to 3000W of solar panel input. The unit does not include a solar panel, but can be purchased separately.

Control It All via the Dabbsson App

Dabbsson’s portable power station includes Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, which you can toggle on and off on the front of the device. Once enabled, you can control input and output settings through the Dabbsson app.

It’s fairly easy to add a new device within the app. Once added, you can turn the device off, toggle different ports on and off, swap modes, and control input for recharging. Furthermore, you can control the LED light, which could be helpful when outdoors at night.

The app is simple to use. It also provides data about the output and input, meaning you can see how much battery power you are using and how much you have left.

Take It Camping, but Bring the Muscle

Portable power stations like the Dabbsson DBS2300 are largely popular with outdoor enthusiasts who still like having access to electricity during their adventures. Many features of this particular unit, including the LED light and solar charging support, make it seem like the perfect battery backup that doubles as auxiliary power during your camping trip.

However, there is one major flaw with this: the DBS2300 weighs 54 pounds!

To me, the weight of this device is by far the biggest drawback. It’s far from practical to take this battery tent camping or lugging it anywhere semi-primitive. Personally, I’d opt for a smaller model from the competition or one that includes wheels and a handle to make it easier to take the battery where you need it.

That being said, this could be a great option for people who travel with RVs or pop-up campers.

Overall, I believe the Dabbsson DBS2300 Portable Power Station is a powerful power station that truly pulls its weight. It currently costs $1599 on Amazon. Alternatively, you can get it directly from the Dabbsson website and pay the fall sale price of $1299 through October 15, 2023. The variety of output options and unique features make it a great investment for those who need electricity at any time. I wouldn’t recommend it for those who enjoy more primitive tent camping, as it’s much too heavy, but that shouldn’t stop you from using it in other ways in your home or outdoors.
