Usually, if you don’t like the sound on your computer, you buy a Bluetooth speaker or grab some headphones. But what if the sound still isn’t exactly as rich as you would like? That’s where Global Delight’s Boom 3D Desktop software can help. It helps take your audio experience to the next level while giving you the chance to customize the sound.
I recently had the opportunity to test out Boom 3D. As a music lover, I was excited to see exactly what it could do.

Boom 3D Desktop Features
Speakers, headphones, and sound cards aren’t always cheap. Boom 3D Desktop eliminates the need to buy more equipment. Instead, it’s designed to help enhance the audio on any speaker or headphones you use on your computer. It works with Bluetooth devices connected to your PC as well.
For full disclosure, I tested the Windows version. The Mac version does have a few additional features, which I’ll mention below.
The software by design sets out to provide a 3D audio experience. It works with any streaming service, music player, website, and video player you use on your computer. So yes, that next big action thriller on Netflix could sound much more impressive when you’re streaming it on your PC.
The main features include:
- Patented 3D surround sound technology in a virtual format
- Built-in audio player
- 31-band equalizer (fully customizable)
- Built-in equalizer presets
- Works with any connected audio device without installing any additional drivers or software
- Six adjustable effects to best meet your listening needs
- Access to over 20,000 radio stations worldwide (requires signing up with an email address)
- Volume booster (Mac only) to increase the volume safely without distortion
- App volume controller (Mac only) lets you adjust volume individually on running apps
Getting Started
One thing I really love about Boom 3D Desktop is you don’t have to buy anything or create an account to try out the full version. When you download Boom 3D from Global Delight, you can try the full version free for 15 days (without signing up) or 30 days (with signup). No credit card is required. You do have to sign up with your email address if you want to access the radio stations or save any custom presets.
After a quick installation, you’re taken through a brief introduction and asked to sign up. Just click Skip if you’re not ready to. It only took around 5 to 10 minutes total for the download and installation.
The interface is incredibly minimal and easy to use. I’ve used equalizers before that looked more like professional soundboards versus something the average person might use on their PC.
If you want to get started immediately without changing anything, simply turn on Boom. The speaker icon in the top-left corner toggles Boom on and off. If it’s in color, it’s on.
Exploring Boom 3D Desktop
I dived right in by adding a few songs to the built-in player. All you have to do is drag and drop any song into the player at the bottom of the window. You can also expand the player to see the radio and your playlist options by clicking the music icon at the bottom-left corner.
Along the top, you have the six main adjustable audio effects:
- 3D Surround – Adjust your surround sound experience using the patented 3D technology
- Ambience – Boost or reduce ambient sounds
- Fidelity – Increase the sound of weaker frequencies for a more balanced and true sound
- Night mode – Reduce louder noises while keeping softer sounds clear so you can listen at night without disturbing others
- Spatial – Create a clearer 3D sound
- Pitch – Make small adjustments to the pitch of instruments
Below those main effects are the equalizer and presets. Boom 3D Desktop creates a main preset for your Windows or Mac device. Of course, you can expand the preset list on the right side of the equalizer to check out other presets.
Use the sliders to adjust the preset to what you want. Use the Advanced toggle to access more bands to further tweak the sound. If you want to save your adjustments to any preset, click the green checkmark beside the preset name and confirm your changes.
Click the music icon at the bottom left to get access to the Radio feature. There are a wide variety of genres and countries to choose from. These are live radio stations from around the world.
My Experience
Now for the part you’ve been waiting for – does Boom 3D Desktop really work? I’ve tried music players and even audio boosters in the past. They’ve been hit or miss. Usually, they don’t work system-wide either.
I tested the sound quality using my laptop’s built-in speaker, Bluetooth headphones, and wired headphones. I wanted to see if I could tell any difference. And yes, I definitely could. You get to choose your type of audio device to control just that particular speaker.
I played videos on YouTube, streamed shows on Hulu, added my own music to the player, streamed live radio, and played a downloaded podcast. My experience remained the same – the audio quality really was enhanced.
Now, before you get too excited, you’re not going to suddenly go from cheap headphones to sounding like high-end Bose headphones. However, I do admit, I’d love to see how well this software would enhance those.
It only took a few minutes to get the hang of adjusting the effects and presets to best match what I was doing. The Movie preset worked perfectly to create immersive sound while watching Hulu. I then switched to the Rock preset while listening to 3 Doors Down and Disturbed. I did tweak the bands a little to get the sound I was looking for, though.
Overall, it was a quick and easy way to enhance the audio on my PC. It wasn’t a mind-blowing experience but definitely noticeable. I personally enjoyed the improved sound, even with wired headphones that are at least a decade old.
Final Thoughts
If you’re looking for a simple way to adjust and enhance sound on your computer, Boom 3D Desktop has everything you need. It’s easy to use and understand.
I liked having all the presets that were also easy to adjust. The built-in player and radio work well as an alternative to other music players. Plus, the software works with any audio you’re playing, whether it’s a browser, app, or other music player.
You’ll notice an instant difference in your audio, even without any tweaks. But, it’s not an extreme difference. I’m personally happy with the difference, though. You can try it out yourself by downloading Boom 3D Desktop today. You have nothing to lose by using the trial. If you like it, the full version is just $39.99.
